Julian Meagher creates luminous paintings that exist between landscape, memory, and imagination.

Working in delicate veils of oil paint, he captures fleeting moments of light. Dawn, twilight, moonrise, and atmospheric phenomena that become meditations on hope, perception, and the passage of time.

Originally trained in medicine before studying classical painting at the Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence, Meagher brings a rare sensitivity to observation and emotion.

Suspended between abstraction and representation, his paintings invite quiet contemplation while exploring the sublime through light, colour, and atmosphere.

Over the past two decades, Meagher has established himself as one of Australia's most respected contemporary painters. His work is held in numerous public collections, including the National Portrait Gallery, Canberra, the Australian War Memorial, and Artbank Australia. A five-time finalist in the Archibald Prize, he has also been recognised in the Wynne Prize, Salon des Refusés, the Doug Moran Portrait Prize, the Blake Prize, and numerous other major Australian awards.
